Büke's Personal Reflection
The poetry unit was a whole new concept for all of us. We had such a different, tasty and an important experience from this unit that will be useful throughout our lives. To be honest, before this unit most of us thought that poetry was something to be afraid of and nonsense. For me, it was nothing but depressing and suicidal. As we started to study more and more poems in our unit, I gradually happen to adore poetry. According to me, the best part of this project was writing our own poems. I enjoyed the feeling of being a poet while transfering our strong believes and ideas into the magic flow of words. We were all anxious at the beginning but in the end we managed to ace it! Good news! I also got into an beautiful habit. I read at least one poem from a poetry book I lend from the library every morning to start the day refreshed and more inspired. I want to maintain this awesome habit and make the poetry a part of my daily-life.
Our essential question was “What’s the line between poetry and art”. We chose this question because we wanted to compare the efficiency of words and visuals. As we did several researches, analysis and comparisons, we came to the conclusion that poetry and art are complementary concepts. A thick line can not be determined as they complete each other. But if we are to draw a line between them, then the line may considered as the use of material. In poetry it is the words and in art it is the paint brush, or pure marbles. Poetry is the use of magic flow of words where you tell what you believe in, a story, a confession, emotions, everything; art is what you create with solid materials such as a paint brush to do express the same exact things
Mrs. Rau really worked really hard to make poetry more appealing to her students. She really did a wonderful job because poetry is a very deep and sophisticated concept that is not very easy to be taught and explained to someone else. Our teacher made us analyze the poems enthusiastically and in a fun-efficient way. Instead of making the challanges seem more complicated, she made us see them as a way of improving ourselves. I want to thank her for all of her hard work she did for us.
